The reigning world champion returns to a familiar spot in Miami. Lando Norris takes Sprint Pole, with Antonelli joining him on the front row and splitting the two McLarens.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella said, “It’s a whole new car,” and he wasn’t wrong.
Q1
Lawson, Ocon, Perez, Bottas, Alonso, and Stroll were the first drivers out.
Stroll’s Aston Martin brought out a yellow flag in the final corner, where many drivers were already struggling, particularly with braking. McLaren and Ferrari showed early pace, both looking stronger than Mercedes.
Q2
Eliminated: Bortoleto, Hülkenberg, Bearman, Albon, Sainz, Linblad.
The top five teams proved their strength, while the rest failed to break into Q3. Most drivers went for two push laps, but only one managed to improve on the second run — Bearman.
Mercedes will be hoping to reassert their dominance going forward.
Q3
Everyone waited for a single decisive push lap. The key to a strong time seemed to be managing tire life through to the final sector.
McLaren executed this perfectly, while Hamilton struggled heavily to keep his tires alive.
